I hoped in the truck and headed south on I-25 past Colorado Springs and Pueblo, turned off in Wallensburg, CO and headed straight for Taos to meet up with David, Kent, and Henley. Kent graciously put us up at his place - Thanks Kent!
I arrived in Taos on 12.28.09 and linked up with Kent...we met up at Martini Tree and hung out until David met up with us at Tim's Stray Dog Cantina - Good times!
We had a great time skiing and frequented some great watering holes - Martini Tree / Edelweiss / Tim's Stray Dog Cantina to name a few. Without further adieu...
Day 11 - Tuesday 12.29.09 - Taos, NM: Woke up early and linked up with Jonathan early so he could pick up some boots to match his new Volkl skis - after Jonathan dropped a load at Boot Doctor's we headed up to the lift. First thing we saw was a sign that said "If this is your first time skiing don't ride this lift" - well that didn't affect us so we hopped on and went for it. Met up with David and Kent and carved around quite a bit - temperature was COLD but it didn't matter - the snow started to fall. Nothing overly exciting but a great overall day with lots of fun turns - everyone kept up well and we had a blast - ending the day with a long return trail after some Ultimaters at Edelweiss!
Day 12 - Wednesday 12.30.09 - Taos, NM: The snow fell all night and well, the Taos mantra (not my skis) turned out to be true - truly steep and deep! One fun picture David caught (OK - fine it was a crappy video of me but I parsed out a pretty neat picture) was just jumping up a sidewall on a catwalk.
We really had a ball - Kent and I had a ball ducking ropes and pounding powder stashes left and right that were thigh deep. On one run Kent goes first and I was second - had to do a couple of jump turns until I got my rhythm...alas - the "trail cheating" was WAY to short - another day I suppose! Of course the day ended up at the Edelweiss - this place seems to be a Taos (Kent and David) tradition!
